Lake Como and the Swiss Alps in a single day
Most day trips from Milan make you choose between Lake Como and the mountains. This one does both. You start with a boat cruise on Lake Como just after sunrise, with Bellagio and its lakeside villas in view, then cross into Switzerland for St. Moritz and the famous red Bernina train.
Autostradale Viaggi, a Milan coach company, runs the day. A guide comes with you and speaks English and Spanish through personal headsets, and the coach, boat and train ticket are all arranged.
It is a long day of about 13 hours, and much of it is on the road. In return you see two of the best-known landscapes in the Alps without planning a single connection.
What you’ll see
Lake Como by boat
A private boat cruise early in the morning, with Bellagio and the villas along the shore.

Lago Bianco and the Bernina Pass
On the Bernina line, the red train runs beside a turquoise lake near the top of the pass at 2,253 metres.

From the train, a long view up the glacier to the snowy Bernina peaks.
Val Poschiavo
The line drops in loops through a green Swiss valley towards Italy.

BusForFun stop, Piazza IV Novembre, by Milano Centrale
Piazza IV Novembre, at the corner of Hotel Gallia, 20124 Milan, Italy
The coach leaves from the BusForFun stop beside Milan’s central station, at the corner of Hotel Gallia. The operator lists a 07:15 departure: check the exact time on your voucher and arrive 15 minutes early.
Before you go
Bring a valid passport or EU identity card. You cross into Switzerland and back, and the operator asks for it on the day.
Pack a jacket or raincoat. The weather on the passes can be very different from Milan.
Food isn’t included. Have breakfast early, bring snacks for the coach and plan lunch in St. Moritz.
The train is the regular red train in 2nd class, not the panoramic Bernina Express. Its windows open, which many photographers prefer.
When trains are busy, the operator may change the train section or the order of the day. Your guide tells you the plan on the coach.
You get a radio headset to hear the guide. The operator charges a fee if it is lost or not returned.
St. Moritz uses Swiss francs (CHF). Cards are accepted almost everywhere.
Accessibility and age requirements
The operator says this tour is not suitable for wheelchair users. Expect about 13 hours, with long coach drives, a boat, a train and short walks in St. Moritz.
Children aged 2 to 12 have their own ticket. Infants under 2 travel free but have no seat of their own and sit on an adult’s lap. Pets are not allowed.
Seasonal availability
The operator doesn’t publish operating dates on its tour page; pick a date in the booking box to check availability. The Bernina line runs all year. In winter, expect snow on the passes and less daylight on the lake.

Questions about this tour
How long is the Lake Como boat cruise?
The Lake Como boat cruise lasts about 45 minutes, according to the tour listing. It is a private boat in the early morning, with views of Bellagio and the lakeside villas: a taste of the lake rather than a full lake day.
Is this the Bernina Express?
No, this trip uses the Bernina red train, the regular train on the same line, in 2nd class. The views are the same and the windows open for photos. The panoramic Bernina Express has large windows up into the roof and needs a paid seat reservation.
Where does the tour start?

Do I need a passport?
Yes, you need a valid passport or EU identity card, because the trip crosses from Italy into Switzerland and back. The operator asks for it on the day of travel.
How much time do you get in St. Moritz?
You get about 1.5 hours in St. Moritz, including a short walking tour with your guide. That is enough for a walk by the lake and a quick lunch.

What languages does the guide speak?
The guide speaks English and Spanish. The operator says the tour may run in both languages on the same day, and you hear the guide through a personal headset.
Can I cancel?
Yes, you can cancel or change for free up to 24 hours before departure, according to the operator. You see the terms for your date before you pay.
Should I choose this or a Bernina-only day trip?
